How to Register for an Experienced Worker Assessment
One of the most common questions we receive is:
"How do I actually register for an Experienced Worker Assessment?"
The good news is that the process is usually much simpler than people expect.
At Renew Elec Training, our aim is not to force people into a qualification that isn't right for them. Instead, we want to understand your background and recommend the route that gives you the best chance of success.
Many experienced electricians worry when we ask for copies of qualifications or details of their previous experience. However, this stage is simply about helping us understand where you are now and what support, if any, you may need.
Its not the end of your career if you don’t have your certificates any more, we have a solution before you embark on the experienced worker assessment
Step 1: Contact Renew Elec Training
Your journey normally starts when you:
Complete a website enquiry
Send an email info@RenewElecTraining.co.uk
Call us directly on our mobile number 07830 406400
Contact us through social media
There is no commitment at this stage.
We're simply starting a conversation to understand your experience and career goals.
Step 2: Receive Your Skills Scan and Candidate Background Form
Our administration team will send you:
The Skills Scan
This helps you assess your knowledge and practical experience against the requirements of the qualification. For more on the skills scan and candidate background form have a look here.
The Candidate Background Form
This gives us information about:
Your work history
Current role
Previous projects
Qualifications
Areas of experience
Request for Qualification Certificates
We will also ask for copies of any qualifications you currently hold.
This might include:
Level 2 qualifications
Level 3 qualifications
18th Edition
Inspection and Testing
Other industry certificates
Step 3: What If I Can't Find My Qualifications?
This is one of the biggest reasons some candidates stop responding.
The reality is that many electricians completed qualifications years ago and no longer have easy access to certificates.
If you cannot find them, don't assume you aren't eligible.
Instead, send us whatever information you have.
In many cases we can discuss:
Replacement certificates
Awarding body searches
Historic records
Alternative evidence
The important thing is to continue the conversation rather than disappearing because you're worried about missing paperwork.
Book Your Technical Discussion
Once we've reviewed your documents, Emily will arrange a technical discussion with either Alex Tranter or Sam Lawler.
Both are experienced assessors and Gold Card electricians who regularly support candidates through the Experienced Worker Assessment process.
The discussion usually takes place via Microsoft Teams and allows us to talk through:
Your qualifications
Your experience
The type of work you undertake
Any knowledge gaps
Your future plans
Most candidates finish this discussion feeling much more confident about the process.
Step 5: Decide Which Route Is Right For You
This is where many people discover there is more than one option available.
Route A: Installation and Maintenance EWA
Suitable for experienced electricians who are regularly carrying out a broad range of installation and maintenance work.
Route B: Domestic Electrician EWA (2347)
Suitable for electricians whose experience is primarily within domestic installations.
Route C: 5357 Route
For candidates who have valuable experience but may not yet have the level or breadth of experience required for the Experienced Worker Assessment route.
Route D: Additional Support Before Registration
Sometimes we identify areas where further experience or training would be beneficial before registration.
This doesn't mean you've failed.
It simply means we're helping you build the strongest possible route towards qualification.
Why Do We Review Experience Before Registration?
Because there is no benefit in putting someone onto the wrong qualification.
Our role is to ensure:
The route is suitable
You meet entry requirements
Your evidence opportunities are realistic
You understand what's involved
You have the support needed to succeed
A short conversation at the start often saves months of frustration later.
