10+ YEARS’ ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE?
No Level 2 Qualification? You May Still Have a Route to the Experienced Worker Assessment.
The Experienced Worker Entry Test, sometimes referred to as the 10+ Year Test, is designed for seasoned electricians who have substantial practical experience but do not hold one of the minimum Level 2 qualifications normally required to enter the Experienced Worker Assessment.
TESP describes the test as equivalent to Level 3 and aimed at experienced electricians with substantial acquired electrical knowledge. https://www.electrical-ewa.org.uk/entry-test/
Eligibility assessment required before the Entry Test can be booked.
10+ YEARS
Typically substantial electrical industry experience
50 QUESTIONS
Electrical underpinning knowledge and understanding
100 MINUTES
In-person assessment at our TESP approved centre
TESP specifies a 100-minute assessment comprising 50 questions and states that these tests are intended for seasoned electricians with substantial practical experience, typically over 10 years.
WHAT IS THE EXPERIENCED WORKER ENTRY TEST?
If you've spent years working as an electrician but never completed the traditional electrical theory qualifications, your experience and acquired knowledge may provide another route forward.
The Entry Test provides an alternative route for selected experienced electricians who do not possess one of the minimum Level 2 qualifications listed within the Skills Scan, but who can demonstrate wide-ranging electrical knowledge and understanding.
It is not a shortcut into the Experienced Worker Assessment.
Your experience must be appropriate for your chosen EWA route and sufficiently broad to satisfy the relevant Skills Scan.
BEEN ON THE TOOLS FOR YEARS?
Missing the traditional qualification doesn't automatically mean starting your electrical training journey again from the beginning.
Let us look at your experience first.
THIS ROUTE MAY BE SUITABLE IF YOU:
Are an experienced practising electrician
Have substantial practical electrical experience, typically over 10 years
Don't hold one of the minimum Level 2 qualifications identified in the EWA Skills Scan
Have acquired substantial electrical theory and underpinning knowledge through your experience
Have sufficiently wide-ranging experience for your chosen Experienced Worker route
Can demonstrate that experience through the relevant Skills Scan
THIS ROUTE IS NOT DESIGNED FOR:
New entrants to the electrical industry
Apprentices
Trainees
Those with limited practising experience
Those whose electrical experience is limited in scope
Anyone looking for a shortcut into the EWA
TESP explicitly states that the tests are not for new entrants, apprentices, trainees, or people with limited practising experience.
10 YEARS ALONE DOESN'T MAKE YOU ELIGIBLE
Having worked in the electrical industry for 10 years or more does not on its own establish eligibility.
The breadth of your practical experience and your underpinning electrical knowledge must also be appropriate for your chosen Experienced Worker route.
That's why we recommend checking your eligibility before going any further.
YOUR ROUTE TO THE EXPERIENCED WORKER ASSESSMENT
-
Review the Skills Scan for your intended Experienced Worker route.
You need to consider whether your previous experience covers the requirements and whether you will be able to generate the required workplace evidence during your EWA.

You must enrol on the relevant Experienced Worker Qualification within six months of passing the Entry Test.
For experienced electricians progressing through the relevant Electrical Installation Experienced Worker route.
WHERE CAN THE ENTRY TEST LEAD?
Successfully passing the Entry Test doesn't itself make you a qualified electrician. It provides eligible candidates with a route to enrol on the appropriate Experienced Worker Qualification.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION EXPERIENCED WORKER
DOMESTIC EXPERIENCED WORKER
For appropriately experienced electricians following the Domestic Experienced Worker route.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T PASS FIRST TIME?
Don't panic, but make sure you understand the rules before taking the test.
TESP permits two re-sits following an unsuccessful attempt.
Those re-sits must be taken within the same assessment window as the original test.
If these attempts are unsuccessful, the candidate cannot re-register for either test for 12 months
PREPARATION MATTERS
Before sitting the assessment, make sure you're comfortable with the published test coverage.
IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A SHORTCUT
The Experienced Worker Entry Test is not intended as a course of study or an alternative route for new entrants.
TESP states that the tests are intended to provide a robust alternative for selected candidates who meet the experience requirements but lack the applicable Level 2 qualification.
Candidates may need to prepare for the examination, but the purpose of the test is to assess existing underpinning knowledge.
WORKED AS AN ELECTRICIAN FOR 10+ YEARS?
DON'T ASSUME YOU NEED TO START AGAIN.
If you've built up years of genuine electrical industry experience but don't hold the traditional qualification required for the Experienced Worker route, let's establish whether the EWA Entry Test could be appropriate for you.
Your first step is checking your eligibility.
