Why Does The Armed Forces Covenant Matter To Renew Elec Training
We are really pleased to announce that Renew Elec Training has taken our first step and been accepted onto the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant means a lot to both Alex and Sam and we wanted to give a bit more background for anyone who is not yet fully aware of what it is and how we fit into the bigger picture.
What Is The Armed Forces Covenant
The Armed Forces Covenant is a national promise that those who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces — and their families — will be treated fairly. It’s about recognising the unique sacrifices made by service personnel and ensuring that they are not disadvantaged when it comes to careers, housing, healthcare, or training opportunities.
For us at Renew Elec Training Ltd, signing the Covenant is more than a formality. It’s a public statement of our values and the way we want to do business.
For more on the Armed Forces Covenant please do have a look at the government site here.
Why the Covenant Matters to Businesses Like Ours
We’re not a huge corporation. We’re a growing, independent training provider passionate about opening doors for people in the electrical industry. For us, the Covenant is about impact on people’s lives.
Service leavers and reservists bring skills that are incredibly relevant to electrical training: discipline, attention to detail, teamwork, problem-solving under pressure. By recognising and supporting these individuals, we’re not just doing the right thing — we’re strengthening the future of the electrical sector.
Alex has spent many years teaching for a military training provider and she sees the support that she is now able to offer as part of that connection.
Supporting Veterans, Reservists, and Their Families
Signing the Covenant means we commit to practical steps, such as:
Considering job and apprenticeship applications from veterans, reservists, and military spouses.
Recognising the transferable skills gained through service.
Supporting staff who may need time away for training or mobilisation.
We also extend this support to Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, who play a vital role in developing the next generation of leaders.
How Renew Elec Training Puts the Covenant into Action
It’s one thing to sign the Covenant; it’s another to live it. Here’s how we’re making it real:
Reserve Forces Training & Mobilisation Policy – ensuring no one is disadvantaged for serving their country.
Flexible training opportunities – welcoming veterans and military families into our courses, recognising their unique needs.
Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award – our next step in showing real commitment to the Armed Forces community.
The Benefits to the Electrical Industry
The UK electrical sector is facing a skills shortage. Veterans and reservists bring qualities that directly strengthen our industry:
Safety-first mindset from military training.
Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
Ability to adapt quickly in challenging environments.
By supporting service leavers into electrical training, we’re not just helping individuals — we’re raising the standards of the trade as a whole.
Looking Ahead: Our Commitment Beyond Bronze
Our Bronze Employer Recognition Award is only the start. We want to work towards Silver, deepen our partnerships with veteran networks, and actively promote opportunities for the Armed Forces community within electrical training.
This isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about long-term commitment.
Conclusion: More Than a Signature
For Renew Elec Training, the Armed Forces Covenant isn’t just a certificate on the wall. It represents our belief in fairness, opportunity, and recognising the value people bring from every walk of life.
By supporting the Armed Forces community, we’re also supporting the growth and professionalism of the electrical industry. And that’s something we’re proud to stand behind.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a living document and we are able to add our own specialist areas, please do watch this space to see how we develop the support we offer!
